Glenn T. Eskew received a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in 1984. He continued his education for Master of Arts degree at the University of Georgia graduating in 1987. Eskew became Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Georgia in 1993.
Glenn T. Eskew has an abiding interest in southern history having taught the subject at Georgia State University since 1993. Previously in 1988-1991, he worked for the University of Georgia. Currently, he heads the university's World Heritage Initiative, an effort to develop a serial nomination of United States civil rights sites for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. His But for Birmingham: The Local and National Movements in the Civil Rights Struggle (1997) received the Francis Butler Simkins Award from Southern Historical Association and Longwood College for the best book in southern history by a new author. His biography, Johnny Mercer: Southern Songwriter for the World (2013), received the Bell Award from the Georgia Historical Society and was selected as a Choice outstanding academic title. Eskew serves on a number of national, regional, state, and local boards, and promotes historic preservation and public history.
Being a historian and historic preservation activist Glenn T. Eskew managed to achieve recognition as an important member of the society of the State of Georgia. That was numerously marked by awards for his literary, educational and public work and by membership on respectable positions in a number of American historical societies.
Eskew's achievements also include the development of the Georgia Literary Festival.
