Markevich taught Russian language and literature at gymnasiums in Khelm and in Shaulyai (1876-1883). Since 1883 Markevich Arsen lived in Simferopol. Since 1887 he worked in Taurian Scientific Archival Commission. In 1884 travelled to Greece, Palestine, Egypt, Turkey.
When Markevich was a student, he prepared the first in Slavic literature monograph “Yury Kryzhanich and his literary activities” (Warsaw, 1876), in which he used the whole published information about life and work of the Slavonic scholar. In the essay “Saint Kiryl and Myafodzii, their lives, activities and services” (Simferopol, 1885) he described lives and educational work of these enlighteners. Some of Markevich’s articles and essays are dedicated to the stay of A.S. Pushkin, V.A. Zhukouski, M.V. Gogal, P.A. Vyazemski in the Crimea. Markevich wrote the bibliography about the Crimea. It was called “Tauryka”.
Since 1918 Markevich worked as an associate professor, then as a professor of the department of the Crimean history at Tauric University. He worked in Crimean central archive. Since 1923 Markevich was a chairman of Tauria Society of History, Archaeology and Ethnography.
