Joined Lusk, Willis & Sproule, barristers and solicitors 1946. Crown Solicitor, Napier 1953. Judge of Supreme Court since 1961.
A Judge of Court of Appeal 1974-1986.

Chairman Royal Commission, on Compensation and Rehabilitation in respect of Personal Injury in New Zealand 1966-1967, Chair, inquiry into similar questions in Australia 1973-1974. Honorary Doctor of Laws (Victoria University of Wellington) 1978, (University of York, Toronto, Canada) 1981.
Achievements

He received the Distinguished Service Cross in 1944 for naval operations in the Adriatic. Woodhouse's achievements were recognised by the award of honorary Doctor of Law degrees by Victoria University of Wellington and York University, Toronto, in 1978 and 1981, respectively. He was appointed a Knight Bachelor in 1974, a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1981 Queen's Birthday Honours and an Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand in 2007.
