Ashito Tokuno was born in 1837 in Japan. Early personal name: Michiaki.
Participated in clangs administration as privy councilor to Lord Munenari Date. In 1858, when Munenari was reprimanded by the Shogunnate, Ashito Tokuno negotiated for reconciliation. Having intercourse with loyalists, he took part in national affairs.
Sent to Kyoto in 1867 he planned the restoration of Imperial authority with retainers of Satsuma (Kagoshima Prefecture), Choshu (Yamaguchi Prefecture) and Tosa (Kochi Prefecture) clans. Distinguished himself by pacifying the Kanto District as staff member of Prince Arisugawa. Went to Hokkaido (1869) as officer in charge of settlement. Later served the Date family.
