Background
He was the son of physicist Eduard Hagenbach-Bischoff and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in 1894 at the University of Leipzig with a thesis titled "Über Thermoelemente aus Metallen und Salzlösungen" under the supervision of Gustav Heinrich Wiedemann.
