Awadh Kishore Prasad Sinha was born on 6 June 1918 at village Tekanpura, then a part of district Monghyr and now a part of Begusarai district of Bihar. He was the youngest of four children of Hito Rai, advocate at Monghyr.

Awadh Kishore Prasad Sinha passed the matriculation examination from Zilla School, Monghyr, in the year 1935, and enrolled the same year in Patna University, Patna. He obtained an MA in philosophy (1941) with gold medal from Patna University, Patna.
Availing the Government of India Scholarship for higher studies, in 1948, he went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and obtained his master in science in 1949 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1951. He specialized in the area of social psychology, experimental psychology, and psychology of personality.
Awadh Kishore Prasad Sinha became a lecturer in зhilosophy at Rajendra College in Chhapra in 1941-1942. He was a head of department of philosophy and psychology at L.S. College in Muzaffarpur in 1945-1946, head of department of psychology at Patna College in Patna in 1956-1957. Since 1959 he had been a director and University Professor at the Institute of Psycological Research and Service at Patna University.
He toured U.K., France, Switzerland and U.S.A. He wrote about 50 articles and research papers. His research publications include the study of prejudice among university students (A.K.P. Sinha and R.P.N. Sinha, 1960), extracurricular interests of university students (Sinha and Roy, 1960), illusion in low and high anxiety conditions (Sinha and Sinha, 1967) and psychology and national development (Sinha, 1978, 1991).
He has many tests to his credit, such as a comprehensive test of anxiety (A. K. P. Sinha and L.N.K. Sinha, 1969, 1995), scientific aptitude test (SAT; Sinha and Sinha, 1991), and adjustment inventory for school students (Sinha and Singh, 1980). He also developed a scientific creativity scale for 10th grade students (Sinha and Singh, 1987). A comprehensive test of anxiety was developed by him and L.N.K. Sinha (A.K.P. Sinha and L.N.K. Sinha, 1969, 1995) on the basis of the symptoms of anxiety.
Awadh Kishore Prasad Sinha was a member of Indian Psychological Association (President), Indian Science Congress Association (President, Psychological and Educational Sciences Section (1957-1958)), American Psychological Association, All India Educational and Vocational Guidance Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science. He had been a convener of National Committee for Economics, Education and Social Sciences, Pan Indian Ocean Science Association since 1960.
He married Ramrati Devi at the age of 20.
