(A startling first novel by a startling young novelist. In...)
A startling first novel by a startling young novelist. Innocence does not always dwell behind the fresh, frank face of youth, she says. Youth may be torn by conflicts as merciless as any in adult life. This she shows in the story of Fletcher Hudson, a girl whose clandestine love affair forces her to come to grips with honesty and dishonesty. Deal writes of her generation with the brilliance of a Fitzgerald, and the unsparing realism of an O'Hara.
