Baiitsu Yamamoto

Background

Yamamoto Baiitsu was born on November 14, 1783 in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. He was the son of the sculptor Yamamoto Yumigiemon. His father was in the service of the court of the Tokugawa lords of the Owari Domain

Career

Yamamoto Baiitsu was a painter to Owari Clan (Aichi Prefecture) and modeled his paintings after the masters of the Yuan and Ming dynasties of China. He was excelled in painting flowers, birds and landscapes. His paintings were somewhat on the vulgar side. Chikudo Nakabayashi was his contemporary and rival in fame.

Achievements

• Two paintings of Yamamoto Baiitsu have been designated as important cultural property.
