Barbara Hodgson was born in 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is a daughter of Stanley and Beatrice Theresa Hodgson.
Barbara Hodgson studied at Simon Fraser University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1977. She earned a diploma in the graphic at Capilano College in 1982.
At Douglas & McIntyre Hodgson worked as a publisher. In Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, she also worked as an Assistant, then book designer and Art Director for Trade Publishing Division from 1982 to 1989. Later Hodgson became a Principal at the Barbara Hodgson Design, Vancouver, where she works since 1991 to the present day. Barbara also works at Byzantium Books, a book packaging company, as a Founding Partner since 1993.
At Simon Fraser University Hodgson was a Sessional Instructor in 1990 and also a Lecturer in book design. At Emily Carr School of Art and Design, she worked as an Instructor from 1990 to 1993. Barbara also worked as a museum artifact Illustrator and Exhibit Curator. She gives readings from her works, including appearances at Harbour-front Centre and North Shore Writers Festivаl, and appears as a guest on media programs.
