Barbara Jaffe earned her Bachelor of Arts at Post College, Long Island, New York, in 1964 and her Master of Arts at the New School for Social Research, New York City, in 1979.
Barbara Jaffe has taught photography at the New School since 1974, and also taught at New York University in Manhattan, Stockton State College, Pomona, New Jersey, and Wagner College, Staten Island, New York. She taught at Manhattanville College in New York City in 1975. Barbara Jaffe was teaching at Parsons School of Design and Sarah Lawrence College when, in 1995, she was hired to run the Photography Program in the Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History at Hofstra University in New York.
Barbara Jaffe is now a tenured, full professor in their School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts.
Her work is in many public and private collections in the U.S. and Europe including New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen, Germany, Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland and corporate collections such as IBM and the Sprint Corporation.
