Barbara Sheen

Background

Barbara Sheen was born on October 8, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. She is the daughter of Lester and Marilyn Sheen.

Education

In 1970 Barbara Sheen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the City University of New York. In 1973 she obtained a Master of Science degree from Long Island University.

Career

For three decades Barbara Sheen has been a teacher and writer, publishing works for both adults and children and earning honors for her teaching skills. During the 1970s, she wrote fiction for adults. Her many short stories appeared in magazines and were collected in anthologies and solo collections. Two books of her short stories were even translated into German and sold abroad.

At the beginning of 2001, she has published several books in Lucent’s Diseases and Disorders series. It includes Attention Deficit Disorder (2001), Arthritis (2001), Hepatitis (2002), Asthma (2002), Diabetes (2003), Cerebral Palsy (2004), Acne (2004), etc.

Achievements

• Barbara Sheen is best known for her books in the Diseases and Disorders series. Her works received high praise from critics. In 1999 she was the Dallas Hispanic Teacher of the Year nominee and the Disney Teacher of the Year nominee in 2000.
