For nearly 40 years, Barry has sought to create a body of progressive work that naturally stimulates an architectural dialogue with the public. He was the first architect/owner of a LEED for Homes residence in Tennessee. His new residence, Civitas is the first registered Living Building Challenge Zero Energy/Zero Carbon single family dwelling in the Americas and is poised for certification by 2020. Barry is past Chairman of Memphis in May International Festival, past Vice Chairman of Hattiloo Theatre, and past Chairman of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Memphis. Barry authored a book dedicated to the art and science of design alliances entitled "PSMJ's Guide to Successful Alliances for A/E/C Firms". His work has received over 100 awards including AIA national, regional, state, and local design awards. His work has been recognized by ARCHITECT magazine, Architectural Record, Architecture Week, Building Design & Construction, Contract Design, Dwell Magazine, Progressive Architecture, and residential design. Barry has advanced the design profession as an architect, speaker, critic, collaborator, and author.
