Leyden University
Bart Veldkamp was born in 1958. He speaks English, French, German and Russian.
Veldkamp studied at Leyden University, now known as Leiden University, and his studies there are documented through 1983. Founded on 8 February 1575 by William I of Orange, the institution was created in the Protestant northern Netherlands to educate citizens in religion and to supply the government with educated men in all fields.
Leiden became a hub for Dutch Reformed theology, science, and medicine, and it remains the oldest surviving university in the Netherlands.
Veldkamp is documented as a partner of Loeff & Van der Ploeg, a Dutch firm that combined legal practice with notarial work, as was customary in the Netherlands. The firm grew out of a Rotterdam practice associated with the lawyer J.A.L.M. Loeff, who served as dean of the Order of Advocates from 1960 to 1966. Loeff & Van der Ploeg also established foreign offices, including in Jakarta, New York, Paris and Singapore.
In 1990 the Amsterdam-Rotterdam firm entered a contractual merger with the Brussels firm Braun Claeys Verbeke Sorel, creating Loeff Claeys Verbeke. In 2000 part of Loeff Claeys Verbeke merged with the tax firm Loyens & Volkmaars to form Loyens & Loeff, which is headquartered in Rotterdam.
