Currie began his career as a reporter of New York Evening Sun in 1900. Two years later he took the same position in New York Times. Then in 1903, Barton was appointed a reporter of New York Evening World. Also he served as an associate editor of Country Gentlemen from 1912 to 1917. In 1917, Barton was appointed an editor of the same magazine. In 1920, Currie became an editor of Ladies Home Journal. Also in 1928, he held a position of an editor of World's Work.
