Behrouz Vahidi Azar was born in 1952 to Hassan Vahidi Azar in Tabriz. His father was an Iranian poet, scholar, civil activist and journalist.
He started his musical education at the age of 12 at Tabriz Conservatory of Music and in three years was admitted to Tehran"s Higher Conservatory of Music from which he graduated in 1975. Vahidi Azar has studied under several local and international musicians, including Lily Serkisian, Nicola Khachaturian, Stepan Sanousian, Zaven Yedighariants, Hedayat Kheyrkhah, Heshmat Sanjari and Morteza Hannaneh. In 2010, Vahidi Azar gathered Urmian musicians and organized them to establish the Urmia Philharmonic Orchestra which performed several classical pieces in July/August.
Vahidi Azar has never hesitated to express his concerns to the authorities over the senseless, haphazard importing of the guitar and electric keyboard by self-seeking profiteers.
He holds that the two instruments "disrupt children"s emotional development", "jeopardize their mental health" and "are not celebrated as much in the manufacturing countries".
