Ben Coes first attended the Groton School, a boarding school in Massachusetts. He then received his higher education from the Columbia College in New York City, where he was awarded the university's writing prize, the Bennett Cerf Memorial Award.
Coes started his career as a White House intern under President Ronald Reagan and then served as the White House-appointed speechwriter for former United States Secretary of Energy James D. Watkins under President George H.W. Bush. He also wrote speeches for T. Boone Pickens and was campaign manager for Mitt Romney’s 2002 run for governor of Massachusetts.
In 2013, Ben and his family started Thrillers for America's Best, a non-profit that sends books to United States Veterans at Virginia homes and hospitals in the United States. Its first shipment of books was made in August 2013.
Currently, Coes is also involved with private equity The Mustang Group, which is a private equity firm that has invested in a number of companies, and where he leverages buyouts and manages middle-sized companies.
Coes achieved worldwide recognition and became one of the bestselling authors starting his writing career in the relatively recent time - the year of 2010. His most popular books include Power Down, Coup d’État, The Last Refuge, Eye for an Eye, Independence Day, First Strike, Trap the Devil, and Bloody Sunday.
