Ben Richards studied at University College London. As a research student at UCL's Department of Geography he spent a year investigating public housing in Chile.

Career

Ben Richards started to work as a housing officer in Newham and Islington, London. He also worked as a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and at University College London. There he taught development studies, specializing in South America. Now Ben Richards is a full-time writer.

Ben Richards published his first novel Throwing the House out of the Window in 1996. His next book Don't Step on the Lines was published in 1997. He also wrote such books as A Sweetheart Deal, The Mermaid, and the Drunks and Confidence. Richards is also a screenwriter. He wrote for Spooks and Party Animals for the BBC, as well as for The Fixer and No Angels. He is the creator and writer of Outcasts. He has also written for the British/French crime drama television series The Tunnel.
