Later he joined the office of his father and continued to work there until 1906 when he established his own office. Active in practice over a period of more than twenty
years Mr McDougall designed numerous and varied types of buildings in the San Francisco Bay area and in the San Joaquin Valley, churches, schools, apartment houses, business structures, hotels and private residences. Notable examples of his work were the Sheldon Office Building in San Francisco. 1906-07; Federal Office Building, Oakland, c.1910; Standard Oil Building, San Francisco, 1910, built at the n.w. corner of Bush and Sansome Streets; Whitecotton Hotel in Berkeley, formerly known as The Shattuck, 1915; Aetnalnsurance Building, San Francisco, Sansome Street near Pine; St. Luke s Church in San Francisco, 1915; St. Paul's Church in Oakland, 1917; and St. James Church in Los Angeles, 1922.
