Ordained ministry Baptist Church, 1891. Successively pastor Bruington, Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, Bristol, Virginia, Knoxville, Tennessee, Elizabeth City. North Carolina, Miami, Florida, until 1908.

Sec, Bapt, Edn, communications of Virginia 10 years, 1908-1918. Associate general director Baptist $75,000,000 campaign, 1919. Superintendent Home Missions Southern Baptist Convention (resigned).

Led movement to establish West Hampton College at Richmond, Virginia, and to move Richmond College Trustee Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Virginia Intermont College.
