Bernard Selz is an American businessman. He is a founder of Selz Capital LLC.

Background

Selz was born on February 7, 1940 in Paris; the son of Georges and Germaine Selz.

Education

Selz received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1960.

Career

Selz began his career as a securities analyst and assistant director of research at Lazard Freres (nowadays Lazard Ltd.) in 1960. Seven years later he took a position of a director of research and chairman at Seiden & De Cuevas Inc. Then in 1973, he co-founded Furman Selz LLC. There Bernard served as a chairman, director of research and a money manager from 1993 to 1997.

In 1997, he became a senior managing director at ING Furman Selz Asset Management LLC., where he served until 2003. A year later Bernard founded Selz Capital LLC., where he runs a domestic hedge fund, begun in 1988, and some private accounts.

Achievements

  • Selz established Selz Capital LLC. Together with his wife, Lisa, who serves as president of the Selz Foundation, a charitable group, they are major financiers of anti-vaccination groups. Bernard and Lisa, have donated more than $3 million to anti-vaccine organizations. They also made donations to organizations that support the arts, education and environmental conservation through their personal foundation.

Membership

Selz is a member of the board of World Monuments Fund, the Frick Collection, the American Friends of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the American Friends of Les Arts Florissants and the International Committee of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs.
