Bernice Chesler, maiden name Goldberg, was born on October 3, 1932, in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States.
Bernice Chesler was a graduate of Northeastern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1955.
After graduating, Bernice Chesler worked in public relations for WGBH-TV and WGBH-FM in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for two years. During the early 1970s, she also worked as a research and publications coordinator for the children's television program Zoom and edited the spin-off book Do a Zoom Do in 1975.
However, Chesler is best remembered for her books about В&B's, which not only told travelers the basic facts about small inns across America but also tried to inform readers about the inns' hosts and atmosphere. These books include Bed and Breakfast in the Northeast (1983), Bed and Breakfast Coast to Coast (1986), Bed and Breakfast in New England (1987), and Bed and Breakfast in the Mid-Atlantic States: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia (1987). She was also the author of In and out of Boston, with Children (1966) and coauthor of The Family Guide to Cape Cod: What to Do When You Don't Want to Do What Everyone Else Is Doing (1976).
