Bernice Beard was born on September 1, 1927, in New Windsor, Maryland, United States. She is the daughter of Edwin Warfield and Henrietta Alice (Snader) Talbott.
Bernice received B.A. in English from Western Maryland College in 1974, and M.A. in 1981.
Bernice Beard began her career as stenographer and secretary at Baltimore Gas and Electric Company in 1944. She also served for one year as feature writer at Carroll County Times, Westminster, Maryland. In 1963, she took the post of assistant director of admissions at Western Maryland College, Westminster, Maryland, and nine years later was promoted to executive assistant to president and elected secretary of board of trustees.
However, traveling by a recreational vehicle opened an important new phase in the life of Bernice Beard. It prompted her to retire early from a career as a college administrator in order to travel more freely with her husband. Beard discovered an exciting new lifestyle traveling by motorhome and she felt that she would like to answer the many questions raised by beginning RV aficionados. She wrote her first book, At Your Own Pace: Traveling Your Way in Your Motorhome. Since then Beard has focused on traveling by motorcoach in specific geographic areas in Alaska at Your Own Pace: Traveling by RV Caravan and Colorado at Your Own Pace: Traveling by Motorhome with Friends.
Bernice is also an ofter contributor of articles, essays, and poems to periodicals, including Family Motor Coaching, Dolphin Log, Messenger, Contrast, Reader's Digest, Gospel Messenger, Leader, Carroll County Times, Pilot, Journeys for Boys and Girls, and Horizons.

1998Beard was a member of American Association of University Women, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Family Motor Coach Association, Good Sam Club, and Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club.
On October 9, 1948, Bernice married Paul William Beard, a telephone company employee. They have one son.
