He graduated from Allahabad University in 1925 and obtained Master of Science in 1927. Bishwambhar Nath Srivastava obtained Doctor of Science from University of Allahabad in 1939. He was a specialist in Refrigeration and Thermodynamics.
Bishwambhar Nath Srivastava had 30 years experience in teaching, worked as Research Professor at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science since 1954. He remained Professor and Head, Department of General Physics and X-rays, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata in 1953-1970.
He wrote about one hundred research papers and some books. Srivastava co-authored (with M.N. Saha) "A Treatise on Heat" and served as Editor of Indian Journal of Physics for several years. He also served as Member of Commission I, International Institute of Refrigeration.
Bishwambhar Nath Srivastava was a fellow of National Institute of Sciences, Institute of Physics (London), Physical Society (London), and a member of International Institute of Refrigeration, Commonwealth Universities Conference (Cambridge 1953). He toured Western Europe in 1953.
