1917-1918 actor, Moscow Chamber Theater. 1918 began work as set designer in Merezhkovskiy’s Pavel I (Paul I) at Smolensk Theater. Introduced innovations in stage settings and costumes.
Worked with ballet-master K. Ya. Goleyzovskiy at Experimental Theater and with director Bachelor of Arts Mordvinov at Experimental-Heroic Theater: 1941-1945 chief set designer, State Circus. 1950-1960 chief set designer, Stanislavsky Drama Theater, Moscow.
In early stage of career sided with constructivists. Later switched from conventional decor (Labish’s "Kopilka,” Sophocles’ ’’Oedipus Rex” at the Experimental-Heroic Theater) to more realistic sets conveying the local color of the period, modified by the author’s original style. Specialist in the planning of stage space.
Designed excellent sets for premiere opera, ballet and dramatic productions, circus shows and musical comedies.
