1920-1923 professor, Don Polytech Institute, Novocherkassk. 1928-1946 professor, Leningrad University. 1935-1936 and 1947 also professor, Moscow University.
From 1923 worked for Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. 1901-1907 made soil and geographical study of Chernigov Oblast. 1912-1922 studied Don Basin.
1924-1926 soil and geographical research in Mongolian People's Republic. Concentrated on origin of soils and weathering of Earth’s crust. Devised sci standards for classification of geographical landscapes and determination of their geochemical characteristics.
