Boris PUGO, politician. Order of Red Banner; Order of Red Star.


Pugo, Boris was born in 1937 in probably in Russia. Son of the Latvian communist Karlis Pugo, at a time when the Latvian Communist Party was still illegal.


Graduated from the Riga Polytechnical Institute, 1960.


Deputy to Supreme Soviet of Latvian S.S.R. 1969-1971. Deputy to Latvian S.S.R. Supreme Soviet 1975-1985. First Secretary of Riga City Committee Latvian CP 1975-1976.

Deputy Chair, of KGB, Latvian S.S.R. 1977-1980, Chairman 1980-1984. Rank of Major-General since 1984. First Secretary Central Committee Latvian CP.

Chairman Party Control Committee since 1988. Elected to Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR since 1989. Candidate; Deputy to Council of Nationalities, USSR Supreme Soviet since 1984.
