Boris Stepanovich graduated from the Uryupinsk gymnasium, studied at the State Academy of Art Sciences (now Russian Academy of Arts).
Since the beginning of the 1930s, the correspondent of the newspaper "Izvestia",
later - the correspondent of TASS in the Stalingrad region. Since 1937 he published the folklore of the Don Cossacks, participated in the folklore expeditions of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
Lashchilin repeatedly visited the Novokhopersk and Borisoglebsk districts, visited Voronezh, was published in the magazine “Rise” (1957-1959). The songs he collected were used in the repertoire of the Voronezh State Academic Russian Folk Choir named after K.I. Massalitinov and the ensemble "Voronezh girls".
