A former basketball player, Grundy switched to Australian rules football in 2010. Following a successful season playing as a ruckman with South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Sturt"s junior teams, Grundy was recruited by Collingwood with draft pick #18 in the 2012 American Federation of Labor-Congress Draft. In March 2014, Grundy signed a three-year contract extension until the end of the 2017 American Federation of Labor-Congress season.
