In 1907 he went abroad and studied at Cornell University.
In 1911 he became an instructor at the Engineering College of his alma mater. Was a chief of Engineering College of Kyushu University in 1931. In 1936 he became a president of Kyushu University.Left the University on reaching retirement age (1940).He was a founder of the science college at Kyushu University and also established the section on marine science. He was a member of the House of Peers by Imperial decree in 1946. He has written several books on electrical engineering.
