Carl C. Gaither was born on June 3, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, United States. He is the son of Clifford C. Gaither, an air force officer, and Pearl Gaither, a registered nurse.
Carl Gaigher graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in psychology. Then he studied at McNeese State University from which he graduated in 1974 with a Master of Arts degree in psychology. At the Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe), he received a Master of Arts degree in 1980 majoring in criminal justice. A Master of Science he became at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1983. Also, he studied at United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Carl Gaither began his career at Louisiana State Penitentiary as the hospital administrator for prison hospital. At Texas Department of Corrections (now Texas Department of Criminal Justice), he has been working as a research assistant. The position of teacher of remedial mathematics he took at University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 1983 till 1985. Then during two years, he has been working as a teacher of mathematics and statistics at McNeese State University. Also, he worked at Aviation Test Board in Dothan in a position of the civilian mathematical statistician. Then he worked at Aviation Test Directorate in Fort Hood as a civilian engineering psychologist from 1988 till 1990, as civilian operations research analyst - from 1990 till 1995. Serving at the US Navy, Gaither took the position of an aviation anti-submarine technician. Since 1995 he has been working as a freelance writer.
