Gugino received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Buffalo in 1953.
Gugino served in the United States Navy Dental Corps from 1953 to 1955. In 1955, he entered a group dental practice and then attended his residency in Orthodontics at the University of Buffalo, which he completed in 1961. Since 1961 he has specialized in Orthodontics.
Nowadays his primary focus is coaching, lecturing and integrating advanced orthodontic concepts into leading orthodontic practices around the world.
Gugino developed the first computerized cephalometric and visual treatment objective program with Dr. Thomas Ricketts and Dr. Bench.
He authored a textbook called "Next generation BioprogressiveTM Philosophy, ZeroBase OrthodonticsTM". Also he founded the Millennium Society.
Gugino and Peter Breads founded Great Lakes Orthodontics, a major orthodontic laboratory and product company that employs over 120 people.
Gugino is a member of American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, Erie County Dental Society and the 8th District Dental Society.
He is a president of French R. M. Ricketts Society and Bioprogressive Study Club of Japan.
On November 19, 1995 Carl Gugino married Linda Barrett. They have 3 children.
