Carl Hamilton was the editor of the Rödluvan magazine in the early 1980s, published by the Maoist Red Youth. He is a columnist at Aftonbladet and has been a presenter on both Swedish Television and TV 8. He is a working chairman of Piratförlaget and a board member of Pocketförlaget.

Hamilton became intrigued by the story of Absolut vodka while researching business ethics. Behind the official story of a prominent advertising firm successfully marketing a worthy product, Hamilton discovered the strange tale of a marketing campaign designed to sell a bottle, with the contents invented almost as an afterthought. He tells that story in Absolut: Biography of a Bottle. His previous works include the life story of Egyptian born industrialist Refaat El-Sayed and several collections of essays.
