(Imagining a windfall of his own and haunted by his own ch...)
Imagining a windfall of his own and haunted by his own checkered history with money, Brancaccio embarked on a funny and irreverent personal finance pilgrimage. His travels took him from Minnesota's Mall of America to New York City's Wall Street to one of the poorest towns in the West. He encountered entrepreneurs in California, homeowners in New York, retirees in Arizona, and some folks following their lifelong dreams in Texas.

David Brancaccio was born on May 17, 1960, in Waterville, Maine, United States.
In 1982, David received a Bachelor of Arts in African Studies and History from Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in journalism from Stanford University in 1988.
In the early 1990s, Brancaccio was Marketplace's European correspondent based in London and hosted Marketplace from 1993 to 2003. He co-anchored the PBS television news magazine program NOW with journalist Bill Moyers from 2003 to 2005, before taking over as the program's solo anchor in 2005. The last episode of Now was broadcast April 30, 2010.
In 2011, Brancaccio returned to American Public Media's Marketplace as a correspondent, where he covered new economy issues and tech/innovation. He is now host and senior editor of the popular business program The Marketplace Morning Report.
Brancaccio served as a special correspondent for Marketplace's Economy 4.0 series, which focused on in-depth reporting on ways to make the economy better serve more people. Most recently, Brancaccio hosted Marketplace Tech, Marketplace's daily technology program. He has appeared on CNBC, MSNBC, and BBC television and his newspaper work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Baltimore Sun, and Britain's The Guardian. He also hosted public television's California Connected and hosted a series of long-form public radio documentaries on international affairs produced by the Stanley Foundation.
David Brancaccio is perhaps best known as the anchor of the award-winning public radio program Marketplace. Before Brancaccio became the program’s host in 1993, it had a listenership of under one million. By the end of the decade, the audience had grown to over three million and Marketplace had won the DuPont-Columbia Award, the most prestigious award in broadcast journalism. He also has earned the highest honors in broadcast journalism, including the Peabody, the Emmy, and the Walter Cronkite awards.
As host and senior editor of public television's NOW on PBS broadcast, David brought his engaging, probing style to beats that included business and finance, the environment, national security, and human rights. A survey of opinion leaders found that NOW on PBS was the most influential news program on broadcast television.
