Software Engineering: Methods, Modeling, and Teaching, Vol. 3
(Book on software-engineering theory, modeling, SEMAT-base...)
Book on software-engineering theory, modeling, SEMAT-based methods, and engineering education; Zapata Jaramillo is identified as an author and compiler.
Carlos Mario Zapata Jaramillo is a Honduran-born Colombian engineer, educator, and researcher in software engineering. He is an associate professor at the National University of Colombia and is known for developing pre-conceptual schemas and controlled-language methods for requirements elicitation, conceptual modeling, natural-language processing, and software engineering education.
Background
Carlos Mario Zapata Jaramillo was born on March 30, 1968, in Santa Barbara, Honduras. His recorded family connections include his mother, Carmen, and his father, Ram+. His professional and academic career has been based principally in Colombia, where he developed from civil engineering and construction project work into university teaching and research in systems and software engineering.
Education
Zapata Jaramillo completed his Civil Engineering degree at the National University of Colombia in Medellín in 1991. He subsequently pursued postgraduate study at the same university, earning a Specialization in Information Systems Management in 1999, a Master of Science in Systems Engineering in 2002, and a Ph.D. in Engineering with an emphasis in Systems in 2007. His academic training provided the foundation for his later work in software engineering, requirements engineering, computational linguistics, natural-language processing, and engineering pedagogy.
Zapata Jaramillo began his professional career in 1991 as a project building engineer with various construction companies in Antioquia, Colombia, and continued in that field through 1994. From 1993 to 1994 he worked at Porticos Ltda. as a cost and schedule control engineer. He then served as an external project engineer at Maderas de Occidente Ltda. from 1994 to 2000 and became the company's general manager in 2000. Also in 2000 he began teaching at the National University of Colombia as an assistant professor. By 2008 he was an associate professor in the School of Systems of the Faculty of Mines at the university's Medellín campus, where his work has combined teaching, research, supervision, and academic project development. His research has focused on software engineering, requirements elicitation, pre-conceptual schemas, controlled languages, computational linguistics, natural-language processing, conceptual modeling, and methods for teaching software engineering.
Achievements
Invention of pre-conceptual schemas and special diagrams for software requirements elicitation.
Development of controlled-language and conceptual-modeling methods that support the transformation of natural-language requirements into UML and other software-engineering representations.
Zapata Jaramillo's documented family connections are his mother, Carmen, and his father, Ram+. Professionally, he has been associated with the School of Systems and the Department of Computer and Decision Sciences of the National University of Colombia's Medellín campus, where he has worked as an educator and researcher and has supervised doctoral research.
