In 1900 he moved to New York, and during a few years of practice in the city planned a number of hotels and apartment houses. In 1906 he arrived in Pittsburgh to open an office, and for several years carried on work of a general character. He designed the first modern Apartment House in Pittsburgh, "Dellfield Dwellings," also the new Rittenhouse Hotel, later became interested in ecclesiastical design and visited Europe to study famous examples of Norman Gothic. He also collected a vast store of church lithany.
Returning to Pittsburgh, Mr. Strong engaged in practice of a general nature, with the Mount Mercy Academy and Seton Hill College among his better known buildings. His most notable achievement in Gothic design was the Church of the Sacred Heart, only partially completed at the time of his death.
