In 1956 Carol received Bachelor of Science at Phillips University, and then she earned Master of Arts at University of Central Oklahoma in 1978. Carol also attended University of Oklahoma, Hiram College, University of Colorado, Rose State College, and Academia Hispano Americano.
Carol worked as an elementary schoolteacher in North Haven, Indianapolis, and Oklahoma. In 1982 - 1993 she served as a teacher of elementary gifted education in Academic Center for Enrichment, After that she was an adjunct professor of English in Rose State College in 1988 - 1996, and then an adjunct professor in University of Central Oklahoma in 1996 - 2001.
Then she was a freelance writer and storyteller at camps, churches, libraries, and schools. Olympics of the Mind, local, regional, and state judge since 1985. Moreover, Carol worked as an artist in residence at Contemporary Arts Foundation and Warehouse Theater, and interpreter and teacher at medical missions in Mexico, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, and Oklahoma City, United States.

On August 25, 1956 Carol married a legislator Joseph Jefferson Hamilton, but they divorced on June 29, 1994. They had three common children: Debra Susan Hamilton Havenar, Christopher David, and Stephen Anthony.
