Child actor in film and radio in Chicago, Ill during the 19 30's and 40's. Teacher graphic arts Black Mountain College (Ashville, North Carolina),1951-1954. Married artist Dorothea Rockburne. In 1952 their daughter Christine was born. Dorothea and Carrol eventually divorced. In 1956 Carroll's second daughter Carol was born to his new wife (name unknown). As a designer, and with engineering skills, Carroll collaborated with Buckminster Fuller on Geodesics, Incorporated, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1956-1957. With record production at Ultra Hi-Fi Headquarters, New York City, 1957-1958. President of Zia Cine, Inc. since 1959 in NYC, Carroll produced and directed documentaries and travel films with film editor and visual anthropologist, Joan Swayze. Both Carroll and Joan became interested in the union of film, sound and Anthropology and decided to create the first school for visual anthropolists. They courageously moved to Santa Fe, NM in the mid 1960's. They then married and had two children, Carolyn and Carisa. Director of the Anthropology Film Center, Santa Fe, from 1965, co-director, teacher, from 1966. Instructor: film and culture University of New Mexico, since 1989. Mr. Williams worked as a freelance filmmaker, 1959-1971. Consultant: various university and film production companies, since 1954. In the 1980's, Mr. Williams and visual anthropologist, Ginger John became partners and had two children, Caitlan and Cian. Mr. Williams is now deceased.
Avocations: Created the first school to teach film making techniques to Anthropologists for research in the field. He excelled in computer science early-on before the computer became a daily tool. Worked in the field of architecture, was also a painter, Motion Picture cameraman, sound recordist, editor sound mixer, Director and Producer. At an early age he was a professional race-car and motorcycle racer. He loved fine food, wine, backpacking, arts and crafts. A true renaissance man.
