Carsten Stroud brings a reads-like-a-novel style of journalism to this nonfiction book on the U.S. Marshals' fugitive apprehension unit. In Deadly Force he follows marshal Luke Zitto in his vendetta-like pursuit of two men whose brutal careers in crime turn out to be unexpectedly linked. In going after the "Yellow Man," a hatchet-wielding murderer with ties to organized crime, Zitto will at last find himself in a position to also nail the man who raped a U.S. marshal, a close friend of Frank. But the hurdles he faces in taking down these men lead him to a terrible conclusion: at least one of them is being secretly protected by the U.S. government.

Niceville has an almost unearthly beauty when the sun tops the ancient nearby mountain called Tallulah's Wall and bathes it in soft Southern light. Carsten Stroud was born on July 10, 1946 in Hull, Canada; the son of Casimir Laurence Stroud and Catherine Amanda (Potvin) Stroud.
Carsten Stroud attended the University of Guelph and the University of Toronto.
Carsten Stroud has long been interested in the work of law enforcement officials and military men. Two of Carsten's nonfiction works deal with law enforcement in Canada. In The Blue Wall, Stroud recounted what he had learned after a year of going on the job with police officers in Toronto.
In Contempt of Court Stroud also deals with the Canadian justice system, this time in a negative fashion, asserting that the courts prevent police officers from doing their work by giving too much protection to criminals.
For his best-selling Close Pursuit, Stroud went south and east. He spent six months with members of the New York City Police Department, following the activities of a homicide detective who was working on three different cases at the same time. Stroud attended an autopsy and witnessed the capture of a murder suspect.
In Deadly Force, Stroud focused on four years in the career of a U.S. marshal who was attempting to apprehend a rapist and multiple murderer.
In addition to his nonfiction works, Stroud has written several genre novels, including the police procedurals Sniper's Moon and Lizard Skin. His latest work The Shimmer was published in 2018.
