Background
Cecil Isaac was born on October 30, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of Cecil Isaac, Sr. and Marie (Whelan) Isaac and grew up in Connersville, Indiana. After graduating from Oberlin, he served as a United States Army bandsman during the Korean conflict, after which he attended Columbia University for graduate work.
