Charles-Louis Ackermann is a Luxembourgish business executive and industrial leader who developed his career around Accumalux and Poudrerie de Luxembourg. Trained in chemistry and nuclear chemistry at the University of Lausanne, he guided Accumalux's expansion into battery components, injection-moulded plastics, tooling, and international operations.
Background
Charles-Louis Ackermann was born on June 15, 1951, in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. He belongs to a Luxembourg industrial family associated with Poudrerie de Luxembourg, a company founded in 1906 and historically connected with the manufacture of explosives and later with industrial diversification.
The family's industrial activities changed direction during the decline of Luxembourg's iron-mining economy. Poudrerie de Luxembourg developed an interest in battery-related manufacturing, and Accumalux was established in 1976 as part of that transition from explosives and traditional industrial production toward plastics and battery components.
Education
Ackermann studied chemistry at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and specialized in physical and nuclear chemistry. His scientific education provided the foundation for a career combining industrial management with plastics processing, battery-component manufacturing, and technical development.
The University of Lausanne, founded in the sixteenth century and located in a major Swiss academic center, developed from a theological academy into a comprehensive university with strong scientific and professional faculties. Ackermann's specialization in physical and nuclear chemistry connected his education with the expanding scientific and industrial technologies of the postwar period.
Career
Ackermann began his professional career in 1976 and devoted much of it to the Accumalux group. Accumalux emerged from the industrial tradition of Poudrerie de Luxembourg and specialized in injection-moulded polypropylene battery cases, covers, and accessories, as well as the construction of high-precision injection moulds. The company's products served automotive, traction, stationary, and industrial battery markets.
From 1981, Ackermann served as chief executive officer of Accumalux S.A. and became a central executive in the group's development. In 2007, Luxembourg's Inspectorate of Labour and Mines described him as president and managing director of Accumalux. At that time, the group operated in Luxembourg and abroad through related companies in the Czech Republic, Australia, and Egypt, while its Luxembourg activities included Accumalux, Luxbat, and Luxmold.
Ackermann also held senior responsibilities at Poudrerie de Luxembourg S.A. and related industrial companies. He served as president and managing director of Poudrerie de Luxembourg and held board or executive positions with Luxbat S.A., Accumalux Mold Technology S.A., Accumalux MB s.r.o., Accumalux BG, Accumalux Australia Pty Ltd, Accumalux Egypt Ltd, and other Luxembourg companies. His career reflected the transformation of a historic explosives enterprise into a group focused on plastics engineering and battery-industry supply.
In addition to his industrial responsibilities, Ackermann joined the board of Banque Raiffeisen in 2014. He was also associated with companies including Luxport, Eurobéton, Portlux, and Rotarex. His professional work connected scientific training with corporate governance, manufacturing expansion, international subsidiaries, and the modernization of Luxembourg industry.
Achievements
Ackermann helped lead the transformation of the Poudrerie de Luxembourg industrial tradition into Accumalux, a group specializing in injection-moulded plastics, battery cases, covers, accessories, and injection-moulding technology.
He guided the development of Accumalux's international industrial network, which included operations or related companies in Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Australia, and Egypt and supplied components for automotive and industrial battery markets.
Membership
Ackermann has participated in civic, sporting, and international friendship organizations. He was associated with the Rotary Club of Esch-sur-Alzette and with ATSL, an organization devoted to Czech and Slovak-Luxembourg relations.
He was also honorary president of HC Berchem, a Luxembourg handball club. These affiliations complemented his industrial career with involvement in community, sporting, and cross-cultural organizations.
