He was educated at the University of Wisconsin, Mr. Birge studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts.
He began his career in Chicago, but left there after a few years to move to New York, and for many years he maintained an office on 34th Street, near Fifth Avenue. During his practice in the city Mr. Birge was architect of many of Schrafft’s Candy Stores.
In later years he retired to his home at Scarsdale, New York.
