Charles Gilman Norris was born on the 23th of April in 1881 in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Benjamin, was a self-made Chicago businessman and his mother, Gertrude Glorvina Doggett, had a stage career. When Charles was 3 years old the family moved to San Francisco. Norris also attended the University of California and got his degree in 1903.
