Charles Portland was born on July 11, 1952, in New York City, New York, United States.

Education

Portland graduated from the City University of New York with an associate degree in 1974. He then received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1979 and a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1982.

Career

Portland started his career as a certified public accountant at Arthur Andersen and Co. in Oklahoma City in 1982. Four years later, he became a senior financial analyst at Knight Ridder in Miami and held that position till 1989.

After leaving Knight Ridder, Portland founded Charlden Marketing, where he worked as a director for four years. Since then, he had worked as a company's international consultant and technical writer.

During his career, Portland also served in the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1980.
