Lecturer in Classical Archaeology in University of Cambridge 1880. Director of Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge 1883-1889. Director of American Archaeological School, Athens (retaining Readership at Cambridge), 1889-1893, retaining Professorship there till 1896.
Excavated the site of ancient Plateea, 1889-1890. Eretria (tomb of Aristotle), 1891. The Heraion of Argos, 1892-1895. H.D.; Knight Commander of the Order of the Redeemer; and Ernestine Saxon Order; Knight of the Danebrog; academical teacher, excavator, and author; Slade Professor of Fine Arts, 1895-1901, and again since 1904, and Reader m Classical Archaeology in the University, 1882; Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge; Vice - President Hellenic Society and member of Council of British Archaeological School, Athens, Rome, etc.
