Appointed to Republican National Convention, 1856. Succeeded John Scripps as editor Chicago Tribune, 1860-1863, 65-57, supported Lincoln for President United States. Became editor Chicago Evening Post, 1867.
1st secretary Chicago History Society, 1857.
Married Jane Yates, 1849. Married second, Julia Clark, September 5, 1864. Children: Maria, Francis Perlee, Charles Paul, Edmond Gilbert, Bertha Cornwall, Julia Lincoln.
