Ray, Charles Henry was born on March 12, 1821 in Norwich, New York, United States. Son of Levi and Bertha (Cornwall) Ray.

Education

Attended New York University.

Career

Granted license to practice medicine, 1844. Moved to Galena, Illinois, 1851, became editor Galena Jeffersonian. Purchased interest in Chicago Tribune, 1855, represented Tribune in convention opposed to slavery, Decatur, Illinois, 1856.

Appointed to Republican National Convention, 1856. Succeeded John Scripps as editor Chicago Tribune, 1860-1863, 65-57, supported Lincoln for President United States. Became editor Chicago Evening Post, 1867.

1st secretary Chicago History Society, 1857.
