In charge of chs. in Indiana and Illinois, 1862-1870. Pastor Methodist chs., Baltimore, also Newark, New Jersey, Brooklyn, 1870-1880. Chancellor Syracuse University, 1881-1893, instrumental in increasing university’s endowment and building program.
Appointed by New York Legislature a commissioner to investigate conditions of Onondaga Indians, 1882. Pastor Meridian Street Church, Indianapolis, 1893-1898, 1st Church, Syracuse, New York, 1898-1904.
