In insurance business, Cleveland, Erie, Pennsylvania, and Chicago, 1883-1888. With Christian Oracle, Chicago, and preaching at Crystal Lake, Illinois, 1889-1890. Ordained Church of Christ (Disciples) ministry, 1894.

Pastor, El Paso, Illinois, 1893-1896, Angola, Indiana, 1897-1903, University Church, Des Moines, Iowa, since 1904. Chautauqua and lyceum lecturer. Convention speaker Men and Religion Forward Movement.

Chaplain of 157th Regiment Indiana Volumes, Spanish-American War. Trustee Drake U. (chaplain 1905-1917). Lecturer in army camps for League to Enforce Peace and Young Men’s Christian Association, 1917-1918.

President Christian Endeavor Union of Indiana, 1901-1903. Member board directors Christian Board of Publication, St. Louis. President American Christian Missionary Society, Centennial Convention, Pittsburgh, October 1909.
