Entered service of the Missouri Republican, 1867, of which his father was one of the principal proprietors. Served in various capacities and long had charge of the paper’s Washington bureau. In November 1887, became president of the Corporation, “Publishers, George Knapp & Company,” owners of the paper, the name of which was changed to The Saint Louis Republic, May 1888.
