The date and the place of Charlie Hauck's birth is unknown.
Charlie was a writer and producer for television shows, including Maude and The Hogan Family. He put his background to good use in his first novel Artistic Differences. The plot involves a pair sitcom writer-producers, Jimmy Hoy and Neil Stein, who are struggling to get a new show on the air in an industry cluttered with malcontents, eccentrics, and incompetents. The worst of these is the show's star, Geneva Holloway, a beautiful but talentless prima donna whose appetite for power grows with the success of the show. Jimmy and Neil's efforts to hold things together in the face of ineptitude and hostility also have drastic effects on their personal lives. As Chris Chase wrote in the New York Times Book Review, "Artistic Differences is sometimes savage and always funny..., yet even as you howl over the author's sendup of the Machiavellis and the nut cases in his chosen field, you recognize the ring of truth." Hauck has also written short fiction and a 1977 short film, A Slight Drinking Problem, in which a husband and wife confront the husband's alcoholism.
