Chinmay K. Mukhopadhyay is an Indian biologist, scientist. He is Professor at Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Chinmay K. Mukhopadhyay was born on August 2, 1965 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India; the son of Shyamal Kumar and Renuka Mukhopadhyay.

Education

In 1995 he graduated from Calcutta University and received a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry.

Career

From 1994 to 1997 C. Mukhopadhyay worked as the Postdoctoral Trainee, Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Heart Association of Northeast Ohio, Department of Cell Biology at The Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. From 1998 to 2001 he held a position of a Research Associate of the Department of Cell Biology at The Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland. C. Mukhopadhyay was an Associate Professor at Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, 2001-2008. From 2005 to 2007 he was a Chairperson at the same centre. From 2008 to nowadays C. Mukhopadhyay is Professor at Special Centre for Molecular Medicine.

Achievements

  • He discovered that Vitamin C protects intracellular and extracellular proteins from oxidative damage and identified non-transferrin mediated iron uptake pathway in mammalian cells.
